The NFL offseason is always ripe with storylines, and this year, one of the most talked-about rookies isn't a top draft pick or a combine superstar.
Instead, it's fourth-round selection Cam Skattebo, the bruising running back out of Arizona State who's quickly become a fan favorite for the New York Giants.
Rookie Cam Skattebo's viral attitude gets noticed
Known for his gritty, no-nonsense style, Skattebo's hard-nosed approach has begun turning heads, and not just in East Rutherford.
After a strong start in rookie minicamp, Skattebo's confidence and physical playstyle have already drawn comparisons to old-school backs.
His candid remarks to the media have helped fuel the hype, and even NFL legend Drew Brees has taken notice.
On Friday, Brees posted an Instagram story showing for the rookie, writing: "Attitude Babyyy!!! I love this Dude."
It's rare for a rookie to earn a shoutout from a Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback so early, but Skattebo's bold self-assurance is hard to ignore.
When asked about his mindset heading into his NFL career, the 2024 Peach Bowl MVP didn't mince words: "How many snaps in the NFL have you seen me play? Zero. I've proved nothing," he told reporters.
"I proved what I am in college but I've proved nothing at this level. So now where I'm at, I have to prove myself and if that's for five years or that's for ten years, I'm going to continue to prove myself."
That grounded yet determined approach has resonated within the Giants' locker room, particularly with head coach Brian Daboll.
"He's a 220-pound back who runs with power, toughness, and... a lot of attitude,"Daboll said during minicamp, clearly impressed by the rookie's edge.
While Skattebo's 4.65-second 40-yard dash may have raised eyebrows during pre-draft evaluations, his production, over 2,300 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns last season, tells a different story.
His ability to break tackles and stay active in the ing game adds depth to the Giants' backfield, potentially forming a dangerous duo with fellow rusher Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Whether or not Skattebo becomes a breakout star remains to be seen.
But with the backing of a legend like Brees and a relentless drive to prove himself, the rookie running back is already making noise, and he's just getting started.
