In a surprising offseason move, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans.

The deal also includes a 2026 sixth-round pick being sent to Houston in exchange for guard Kenyon Green and a 2026 fifth-round selection.

Philly's shocking CJ Gardner-Johnson trade

Gardner-Johnson, who played a pivotal role in the Eagles' 2023 Super Bowl win, will now Jimmie Ward and Jalen Pitre in the Texans' defensive backfield.

Gardner-Johnson's exit from the Eagles marks the end of his second brief stint with the team.

After a standout 2022 season with Philly, he spent the 2023 season in Detroit before returning to the Eagles on a three-year contract.

During his time in Philadelphia, Gardner-Johnson contributed 59 tackles, six interceptions, and a forced fumble, with fans praising his fiery leadership and ability to make big plays in key moments.

As news of the trade spread, NFL fans quickly took to social media to express their shock and frustration.

"Mf hit howie ass too hard in the head with that beer," one fan jokingly commented, referencing the bold decision made by Eagles GM Howie Roseman.

Another fan voiced concerns about the team's defense: "Howie is letting our entire defense, that was the top defense in the league, just walk. I don't understand this, but I'm gonna be patient, and see where this goes!!!"

Some fans weren't shy about their displeasure with the trade, with one simply stating, "Not a fan of this move."

Another added, "We let him leave again wtf literally everyone else has made sense except this."

While the departure of such a key defensive player raised eyebrows, others expressed a willingness to wait and see how the trade would ultimately play out.

On the flip side, Green's addition to the Eagles' offensive line could bring some much-needed stability.

Although he struggled in Houston, being benched after difficulties protecting rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, his potential still offers a glimmer of hope for Philly's offensive future.

The Eagles, however, continue to make significant changes, including trading left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Commanders and releasing veteran Shaq Mason.

Only time will tell how these changes impact both the Eagles and the Texans, but for now, NFL fans are left to ponder the ramifications of this unexpected move.
