Russell Wilson's status with the Steelers has unexpectedly changed, how will it affect Justin Fields?

The quarterback situation in Pittsburgh has gotten interesting

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a plan in the offseason. The main idea was for the team to sign Russell Wilson, which they did, and choose him as their starting quarterback, and have Justin Fields be his backup.

They acquired the former Chicago Bears signal caller in a trade and it was a chance to develop into a mature player while sitting on the bench watching the Super Bowl winning quarterback.

But an injury during those preparation games to Wilson set the unexpected path for Fields to succeed. Russell has suited up in full uniform for every game this season, but he has not been active or at least he has been in the injury report every week.

The move that could lead to a change

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be in for a change if they have more trouble winning. Justin Field had led the team to a 3-0 start but the team has lost two straight games and this announcement could create chaos in the quarterback room.

Russell Wilson is no longer in the team's injury report, after being in it since the beginning of the year. This Friday report usually indicates that a player will be available to play and it is now Mike Tomlin's decision to make if he wants a change.

"He's probably going to be active as the No. 2 quarterback," Tomlin said. "(I) like what I've seen out here, but health and rust are two different things. I thought he had a good week displaying his health, his ability to protect himself. Now it's just the process of getting re-acclimated to the ball."

The Steelers face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and if a move is in place, it will be because the team struggles on offense, but probably the end result of a win or a loss might not determine it.
