The Pittsburgh Steelers got a great addition to their offense this Monday by acquiring wide receiver DK Metcalf form the Seattle Seahawks.
The two-time Pro Bowler, who's 27 years old, will now be under contract for five years and $150 million.
The former University of Mississippi standout arrives to a team that have advanced to the playoffs in four of the past five seasons. They have lost in the AFC Wild Card all of those times, falling to the Baltimore Ravens, the Buffalo Bills, the Cleveland Browns, and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Metcalf is a nightmare for defenses
The Pittsburgh Steelers has long sought a bona fide wide receiver one. DK Metcalf-- who had 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns (he would have led the Steelers in catches and yards) -- boasts three 1,000-yards seasons.
That's the physicality to excel and survive in the arduous AFC North and the speed to break games wide open. The Steelers got their guy, and after six fruitful seasons in Seattle, Metcalf is saying goodbye, traveling cross country and to a new conference.
If Pittsburgh gets to the playoffs, like they have done so regularly, they could face superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs. Without a doubt, the wide receiver will be a nightmare to his rivals, including the Chiefs, who are going to be worried about how to defend Metcalf.
DK hasn't reached his full potential
The Seahawks' leading receiver in 2023, DK Metcalf had 66 receptions for 1,115 yards and eight touchdowns, and averaged a career-best 16.9 yards per reception. He was also the league's fastest ball carrier in 2023, hitting 22.23 miles per hour on a 73-yard touchdown reception against the Dallas Cowboys.
The 2023 season was Metcalf's third 1,000-yard season in his five-year career, and he became just the third receiver in NFL history to record at least 50 catches, 900 yards and six touchdowns in each of his first five seasons along with iconic wide receivers Randy Moss and A.J. Green.
"DK is only getting better," former Seattle Seahawks Geno Smith said late in the 2023 season. "He's only getting better. He's only scratching the surface of who he's going to be as a player. He's a young dude, and he's still got some ways to go. To say that is really scary, because he's already one of the best."
