The Pittsburgh Steelers snub Shedeur Sanders again -- He was never in their plans, and Will Howard was always their preference

Before the NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the teams in need of a quarterback - in fact, they still are. However, they continue to wait for a response from Aaron Rodgers, who is keeping them in suspense. As it stands, Mike Tomlin's team might have to choose between Mason Rudolph, Skylar Thompson, and Will Howard to be their starter.

A month and a half before the Draft, the Steelers were heavily linked to Shedeur Sanders. According to several NFL mock drafts, he was projected as a potential first-round pick. But Pittsburgh, despite their clear need at quarterback, ed on him and used their first-round pick to select defensive tackle Derrick Harmon from Oregon.

It wasn't until the sixth round that the Steelers finally decided to take a quarterback: Will Howard, the reigning NCAA champion quarterback from Ohio State, who has even been compared by Jon Gruden to current NFL MVP Josh Allen.

Shedeur was never in the Steelers' plans

Shedeur Sanders continues to make headlines, even after falling all the way to the fifth round of the recent draft. Many NFL analysts believed he had first-round talent.

Is Shedeur Sanders the answer for the Cleveland Browns at QuarterBack?

The Steelers - once seen as one of the top candidates to draft Shedeur - ultimately bet on Will Howard. Journalist Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said the team would have selected the Ohio State quarterback over Sanders even if both had been available.

"I think probably Howard," Fittipaldo said. "I think they thought Shedeur was a good kid. They weren't convinced he was ever going to be a starting-level player for them. Will Howard's going to come in here, he's going to grind, he's going to put his head down. He's not going to mind being a number three for a year if that's what's required. With Sanders, I think there are a lot of questions about how he would handle that situation."

This story is sure to have more chapters - especially if Shedeur Sanders ends up succeeding in Cleveland. If that happens, the Steelers may regret not drafting him, particularly since they'll have to face him twice a year in the AFC North.
