The days go by and Aaron Rodgers still isn't a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. No one knows when or if Rodgers is going to sign, but it sounds like Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are adamant it will happen eventually. Fans are growing restless, and even if Rodgers does sign, if wins are hard to come by, Tomlin could be on the hot seat for the first time in a very long time.
Diehard Steelers fan, media personality and former NFL Network analyst Dave Dameshek has seemingly grown tired of the whole Rodgers saga, but he doesn't blame the quarterback; instead, he believes Tomlin is to blame for everything, mainly because the head coach never takes ability for anything.
"It does seem like it's all coming to a head in 2025. [Mike Tomlin and GM Omar Khan] are out of options of people to blame for their lack of postseason success. Come to think of it, you could probably put together a pretty good roster of all those guys that they've cast off. Maybe call them the "Escape Goats"."
Is Mike Tomlin the real problem for Steelers' lack of postseason success?
Before those final comments, Dameshek ran through a ton of players, coaches and executives who he feels were essentially scapegoats for Tomlin's lack of postseason success.
- Le'Veon Bell, running back
- Matt Canada, offensive coordinator
- Kenny Pickett, quarterback
- Najee Harris, running back
- Kevin Colbert, general manager
- George Pickens, wide receiver
- Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback
- Dan Moore, offensive tackle
- Broderick Jones, offensive tackle
- Russell Wilson, quarterback
- Justin Fields, quarterback
It's a very long list, but it goes to show how many former Steelers were essentially ousted or blamed for the inability of the team to make it farther than fans wanted them to. Despite the Steelers not having won a playoff game since the 2016 season, Tomlin has been one of the safest head coaches in the league.
There's something to be said about Tomlin's streak of 18 seasons in a row without a losing record. But at the same time, none of it really matters if there's no success in the playoffs to back it up. It's now been 15 years since the team last made a Super Bowl.
