When the Washington Commanders snagged cornerback Emmanuel Forbes in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, everyone knew he needed to bulk up to handle the rigors of the NFL. At last year's combine, Forbes tipped the scales at a mere 166 pounds. Fast forward to today, and the Commanders' official site lists him at 180 pounds. But a recent photo suggests otherwise.
The snap, taken at Forbes' youth football camp, shows him looking just as slim as he did before. Forbes is on the left in the photo, and honestly, if we didn't know better, we'd mistake him for a high school player. The young guy next to him? That's Zayion Cotton, a wide receiver from Grenada High School in Mississippi, Forbes' alma mater.
Forbes' first NFL season: Struggles, benching, and a late comeback
Forbes' rookie season in the NFL was a rollercoaster. He suited up for 14 games, starting six of them. But his performance was shaky, allowing a completion rate of 60.7% and a er rating of 103.0 when in coverage. Forbes' early games saw him on the field frequently, but after some tough outings, he found himself benched or barely playing. In his last three games, though, he clawed his way back, with 29, 69, and 71 snaps, respectively.
As Forbes gears up for his second season, he's got a lot to prove to the new coaching staff. But one thing's for sure - he needs to pack on some pounds if he wants to make a real impact. His size is still a major concern, and it's something he'll have to address if he wants to avoid being mistaken for a high schooler again.
