Fans of the Apple Watch were treated to the news they've been waiting for on Tuesday, as details on the Apple Watch Series 9 and a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra were unveiled.

The Apple Watch has been a huge hit for the company since it was first launched eight years ago, and that isn't expected to change anytime soon.

Here's a look at what we know about the new releases.

Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 release date

Apple announced that the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 will be available for pre-order on September 12. They will then go on sale on Friday, September 22.

Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 price

The Apple Watch Series 9 will start at $399, which is the same price as the Apple Watch Series 8. The Apple Watch SE retails at $249, which is the same as previously.

As for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, it starts at $799, which is the same as its predecessor.

As for what the new Apple Watches have to offer, the new releases feature the biggest chip upgrade in years.

The Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 both feature the S9 SiP, which powers new features like the double tap and on-device Siri.

Apple have stated that there are 60% more transistors, 5.6 billion, than in the S8, and that the GPU is 30% faster.

A new 4-core Neural Engine has also been built into the chip, which Apple claims process machine earning tasks up to twice as fast.

The S9 is said to be based on the A15 design which brings a boost in performance and battery life. The Apple Watch 9 matches the 18-hour battery life of its predecessor.

As for the screen, it is brighter than its predecessor with double the brightness at up to 2,000 nites. The Ultra 2 has the brightest ever display at 3,000 nits.

The big new feature is the Double Tap that happens when you tap your index and thumb together. It controls the primary button in the app, allowing s to launch smart stack, scroll through widgets, etc.

It is powered by the neural engine and draws on date from sensors that help determine when you use the feature.

Siri queries no longer require the internet either. This will speed up the process and allow s to both provide and input information that would have been impossible before. Siri Health Queries will also be coming later this year.
