As you probably know, the ADAS systems in new cars rely on cameras to capture the surrounding environment, so that they can alert the driver in the event of danger or even give the appropriate order for the car to avoid the accident itself.
For the first time, there is the possibility that these cameras could be used for much more. The brand that has demonstrated this is Kia, which with the help of music company DaHouse has developed a system called Kia Soundscapes that transforms the surrounding environment into music.
Have you ever driven down a road and felt that the music you are listening to fits perfectly with the surroundings? Well, that's what this system does, only even better adapted than you ever imagined.
The system creates a dynamic soundtrack using artificial intelligence, which varies continuously. Thus, if you go faster, the tempo and tone of the composition varies. The trees and bushes can be heard as we by as soft notes of wind instruments, the distant mountains are translated as soon as they appear into deep and resonant tones...
Blind engers
While testing it in Chile, they recorded two documentary videos that will be released in April and for which they had a blind enger, as it is proven that music activates the visual cortex in blind people. Because this could be one of the great utilities of this system, as acknowledged by David Hilbert, Marketing Director of Kia Europe: "We wanted to offer visually impaired engers the opportunity to experience the world in a different way."
The pity is that this system, which could also be very interesting for sighted engers and the driver, will not be offered at the moment. Kia has warned that it is an artistic experiment and not a commercial product. But given that the technology already exists, its arrival in production models may be only a matter of time.
