The last few days have been a real media whirlwind. Since last weekend it was revealed - without official confirmation - the announcement of Nintendo Switch 2, the video game industry has been turned upside down. Dozens of leakers and specialized media have dropped or verified the authenticity of the same, although we still have no official statement. In other words, Nintendo has not yet corroborated this news. Therefore, although it is being given the status of truth, until the Japanese company speaks out, we can not take anything for granted.

However, there is one very substantial difference from previous leaks: this time many very important names are appearing. In other words, it was not a single portal or insider who gave this information, but when it emerged, many others decided to settle a new piece within the Nintendo puzzle. Thus, among some and others, they took the information for granted. In this sense, we can highlight Christopher Dring, from GamesIndustry.biz, who explained that its launch was close, but it would not be within this fiscal year.

Will Nintendo Switch 2 finally be announced?

Nintendo Switch 2 | Rumors, expectations, dates and more

Another very prominent name, as we are talking about a leaker who has given several accurate information on the subject, is tvPH of PH Brazil. According to this leaker, the announcement would take place between Monday 28 or Tuesday 29, although for the moment we are still without anything. Knowing Nintendo, it is possible that these dates are correct, but with a nuance: today could be the day in which they announce their next conference. After all, it would be very strange to make such a big announcement without any prior notice of any kind.

The problem I see with this whole situation is that the rumours and leaks ( that there is still nothing official from Nintendo, even if it is being claimed that the announcement is imminent) could change the plans of the big N. In other words, they could reformulate their strategy when they see the chaos that is arising around this whole issue. Such changes are not usually common, but the lack of a statement from Nintendo makes me think this way.

The fact is that important names have been appearing, such as Pyoro, a leaker who retired from the scene after he accidentally said that his source was someone from within Nintendo. The fact is that Pyoro is back, changing the image of his header on X (formerly Twitter) with an image of Alarmo, the new Nintendo character, although we cannot know for sure whether the date shown is 3/10 or 10/3, or whether it is a reference to the release or announcement. Similarly, these numbers could be a fortuitous choice and that Alarmo image is just a warning to be alert.

For those who don't know him, Pyoro used to use a lot of cryptic messages when he revealed information ahead of time, previewing Nintendo Direct content almost completely and with very few errors (among other things). So the fact that he has moved makes us think that - indeed - something is brewing in the offices of Nintendo Japan.

It doesn't end there. Between leak and leak, other leakers (such as Nash Weedle) have said that Elden Ring could come to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, which has a special meaning. Beyond its arrival, which would be a bombshell, the timing is very peculiar. Why release it now? Because one of the most discussed topics about the new console is its features. Thus, this leak would reveal that, in effect, its power is no joke.

Many rumors and no truth about Switch 2: we need a Direct

Nintendo Switch 2 | Rumors, expectations, dates and more

As you have already seen, there is a lot of talk that the announcement of Nintendo Switch 2 will be this week. Looking at the timing, if you ask me, I think the info that could come out in the next few hours is the date of a Nintendo Direct rather than the console itself, as it would be very strange for the big N to make an announcement of such characteristics, scope and importance without prior notice.

It would fit me a lot if it were this way because Nintendo has always liked this strategy. When they announce a Direct, they do so with one or two days' notice. It's quite common for them to do this, so it wouldn't be so unusual for them to do it this way again. What I do wonder is how they will do it. Nowadays everyone knows Nintendo Switch 2. We know what its strengths and weaknesses are, special qualities, advantages and disadvantages, etc.

What interests us most about this Switch 2 is what its specs will be, but Nintendo doesn't tend to make announcements focusing on this. It is very common to see ads for the console in which friends and families appear enjoying the console. They don't focus so much on its specifications. As a general rule, they base their ments and presentations more on ideas and functionalities, so it would be strange if this time they did something different. This is why I infer that NS2 will have some important novelty beyond power.

If so, I think they would focus on this, and then they would give additional information regarding the hardware through a press release, for example. It would be what most fits within the Nintendo formula. Of course, it would also seem logical that the announcement came with some new features for 2025. That is to say, video games that would be released with Nintendo Switch 2 to take advantage of its virtues. If I had to make a prediction, I would talk about a new Super Mario in the purest Odyssey style or a new Mario Kart, news about Animal Crossing, etc.

Pokémon would have a harder time, as there are more actors involved, but something would surely be said shortly afterwards. I think Nintendo will use Mario to reinforce the announcement, as a new large-scale Zelda would be strange, especially if we take into that TOTK came out not so long ago and that we recently enjoyed the beautiful Echoes of Wisdom. That said, I say goodbye, but with the desire to return very soon to this topic (now yes) with an official announcement from Nintendo.
