Neither GTA 5 nor San Andreas. The best map in the series is in this other Rockstar game and it's still the best even 15 years later

What Rockstar did with Grand Theft Auto IV is still absolutely insane.

It may surprise you, but Grand Theft Auto IV still has one of the best open worlds in the industry. At least when it comes to the world's interaction with the player and the way its physics and NPCs behave.

And I didn't . It was thanks to Synth Potato that we were able to relive some of the wonders that Rockstar left us back in 2008. Indeed, 17 years have ed and it is still one of the best in its field.

The good thing is that, when ing it, we don't even have to rely on memory, as the tweeter himself has illustrated the situation with several videos that have even made me some things that I had forgotten.

The Grand Theft Auto 4 map is so good that it even has mechanics that GTA 5 does not recreate

One of the interactions that surprised me the most is the revival of NPCs. Why? Well, because this was lost in GTA 5 due to the many resources it can consume. In short, what GTA 4 did with ambulances was to help injured NPCs in the middle of the street.

While visiting the city, it was possible to see traffic accidents, for example, and people lying in the street. Well, if we stayed watching the scene, it could be the case that an ambulance appeared, attended to the injured and this "came back to life". It was a detail that today we do not give so much importance, but it reflects how very careful the game was.

In GTA 5, to give you an idea, the nurses, doctors, etc. who come to a similar scenario simply stand and watch without intervening. Another of the anecdotes brought to us by Synth is related to a simply heinous crime.

Although in this scene the protagonist does not look so much like Belic, the graphics are from GTA 4. Be that as it may, what it tells us is that if within any of the computers in the game we look for "child beauty pageants", we will automatically get a 5-star wanted level.

In fact, also related to this topic, police officers could ask people to stop in the middle of the street and examine their trunk if they analyzed the NPC's behavior as suspicious, either for being suspected of pedophilia or any other illegal activity.

The website is an undercover system to catch pedophiles. It's really crazy that they worked out details like this, although it's not the most surprising. If we want to be amazed, we just have to take a look at the train system.

It was so complex and so well designed that we could go anywhere in the city without loading times. Today it may seem silly, but we must not forget that it is a game from 17 years ago.

Just with these details we can already see how much Rockstar went to great lengths to create an open world with a life of its own, but it doesn't stop there. For example, if we gave money to a homeless person, and someone assaulted us near him, he would help us in the fight as a token of gratitude.

He was also very aware of his posters and the behaviour of the cars. If we burned rubber, the rubber could wear out completely, and if we visited certain car washes, we could get a discount if we visited them by taxi... Because that's what a sign said.

These are details that, as I said, we could ignore, but they reflect a tremendous love for their work. I wish many studios today would do things like this, because it is these little things that make a game end up being a great game.

In his thread, Synth Potato also highlights how well made the mobile phone was, which changed when we acquired a newer model, and even shows some stores that are based on real locations. One detail I is the emails.

GTA 4 introduced the mechanics of emails, being able to talk to other characters through them. It may seem silly, but I find it very curious, especially because we could not speak ill of our mother. If we chose a negative answer, Niko would not listen to us and would speak well to her. His mother was sacred.

Another detail that I loved is that we could find our criminal record. The downside is that these did not update as we progressed through the game, so they were always the same. Despite this, it is a great detail that gives a lot of life to the world of GTA 4.

The best part is that these are just some of the tricks Rockstar did with what could be one of its best games. The bad thing is that many of these ideas were lost in GTA 5. To be honest, I would love for them to be recovered in GTA 6, its most ambitious game (or so it seems) to date.
