Nintendo has just released version 20.0.0 of Nintendo Switch and it has brought with it several very interesting new features. All this while preparing for the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.
Among other things, identity verification settings have been added, online licensing settings have been added, the colors of the eShop icons and the news in the Home menu have been changed..
The update brings many new features, but there are two in particular that caught my attention.
Virtual game cards come to Nintendo Switch
One of the main new features in Nintendo Switch update 20.0.0 is the inclusion of virtual game cards. Announced during the last NSW2 conference, they will allow us to share digital games with our friends.
"Digital software and purchased able content, as well as some free software, now function as virtual game cards and will appear in a list in this menu," they explain.
We will be able to share these virtual cards with up to two linked consoles and they can be lent to s who belong to the same family group as us.
Nintendo prepares for Switch 2 launch
Interestingly, Nintendo Switch 2 has been one of the main protagonists of this new version of NSW. So much so that GameShare has already been included.
From now on, we will be able to "share programs from one NSW2 with a nearby console to play together". Transfer between consoles has also been added to Nintendo Switch in the console's settings menu.
Therefore, Nintendo already allows us to transfer data from our Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2. To be honest, I think it is a wise move to get ahead of the launch.
Although these features are not really useful at the moment, having them so far in advance will make everything easier and more intuitive once the console is available.
