In one of the finest tennis duels in the history of the Mutua Madrid Open, Carlos Alcaraz defeated the current world No.1, Novak Djokovic, to reach the final.

The Spaniard managed to overcome his Serbian counterpart after a match that lasted for as many as three hours and 35 minutes.

Alcaraz grabbed a 6-7(5), 7-5 and 7-6(5) win in the semi-finals of the competition after knocking out his compatriot Rafael Nadal in the previous round.

Nadal and Alcaraz are considered as the two of the favourites to win the Roland Garros which will take place between Monday, May 16, and Sunday, June 5, in Paris.

Alcaraz made history this Saturday in Madrid by becoming the youngest player (19 years and 2 days) to beat both Nadal and Djokovic and the first to do so in a tournament on clay.

Back in 2005, Nadal, aged 19 years and 5 months, had become youngest player to make it to a Mutua Madrid Open final, with Alcaraz breaking that record too.

In the decider that will take place on Sunday, Alcaraz will face the winner of the other semi-final between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.
