One of the biggest tennis tournaments of the year has begun in New York as thousands of fans pile into the US Open to see some of the biggest names in action.
Beginning on August 26 and running through to September 8, the best players from the ATP and WTA have convened in New York City.
Huge names such as Coco Gauff, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are taking part and there has already been plenty of drama in the early rounds.
Gauff successfully won her first-round match, whilst Russian-Armenian player Karen Khuchanov was knocked out by Britain's Dan Evans in a match that lasted longer than five and a half hours.
Djokovic is attempting to defend his US Open crown but he has not played since he won the gold medal for Serbia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

How many sets at the US Open?
The US Open website explains the format of each match in the men's and women's tournaments as follows:
"Women's singles, and men's and women's doubles matches at the US Open are played in a best-of-three-sets format, while men's singles is played to a best-of-five-sets format.
"Players must win six games to win a set - unless the score reaches 5-5, in which case they can also win a set, 7-5. If the set is tied at 6-all, a tiebreak - get it? - is played to decide the winner."
