Makhachev will put on the line the lightweight title he successfully retained in February when he defeated Volkanovski by unanimous decision.
Volkanovski accepted the bout at the last minute to replace Charles Oliveira, who had to withdraw from the fight due to a cut on an eyebrow he suffered during training.
"Everyone knows I want this rematch, I want this belt, and if I lose this fight, I ain't getting a shot at the title any time soon. Let's be real, I ain't getting a rematch anytime soon, either," said Volkanovski, who had only 11 days to prepare for combat.
Chimaev-Usman in the co-feature
Former Welterweight championKamaru Usman will face the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev at middleweight, also replacing Paulo Costa. The Brazilian had to withdraw from the fight due to bursitis in an elbow that required several surgeries.
Chimaev will move up from welterweight to middleweight for the fight in Abu Dhabi. Usman, for his part, is coming off a painful defeat at UFC 286, held in March, against Leon Edwards.
Other fights that will attract the spotlight will be Magomed Ankalaev against Johnny Walker at light heavyweight, Ikram Kliskerov against Warlley Alves at middleweight, and Said Nurmagomedov against Muin Gafurov at bantamweight.
