Although the terrible pectoral muscle injury Jon Jones suffered takes between 8 and 12 months to recover from, the reigning Heavyweight champ is not giving up. Just days prior to his fight, we could see a seasones veteran with nothing more to prove but this new setback has apparently given him a new reason to keep going. Contrary to that philosophy he had before the injury, Jon Jones still wants to fight as soon as he recovers. UFC President Dana White spoke to the media on Wednesday evening about the plans for both Jones and Stipe Miocic. Initially, it was believed that Jones would retire for good after this but the media didn't get why Stipe didn't get a new opponent.

White came out to clear that up by stating they decided to not find a new fight for Miocic because it would be disrespectful to both he and Jones. Here's what Dana said to reporters: "This fight [Jones v Miocic] was set up, this fight needs to happen. Two of the biggest legends of the sport want the fight. Stipe's not fighting for an interim title. Jones said 'I want to fight Stipe'. I said 'you're fighting Stipe. You have the greatest heavyweight of all time versus the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. This is a legacy fight for both of those guys. To even call Stipe and ask him to fight for an interim title is complete disrespect. To be the man you've got to beat the man, so whoever wins that fight, it would be nice to see them stick around to defend the title."

Can Jon Jones take the Aaron Rodgers' approach?

Jon Jones will be subjected to a procedure that is slightly similar to what Aaron Rodgers has gone through recently. Both athletes suffered a career threatening injury that tore a tendon from one of their most important muscles completely. In the past, these types of injuries took from one to two years to recover from and many never were the same after that. But medical technology and advances are allowing athletes to recover completely and return in less than a year. That's what Jon Jones will attempt to do and he is determined to fight Stipe once he does. The question is how his recovery will bring him back to full fitness?
