Former Premier League star's son steals the spotlight in MMA debut

Jake Peacock, son of former Premier League star Gavin Peacock, recently made an impressive debut in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), showcasing his talent and determination in the ring. Born without a right hand, Peacock has carved out a path in MMA, diverging from his father's illustrious football career that included stints at clubs like Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle and Chelsea.

Following his retirement from professional football, Gavin Peacock transitioned into a career as a pastor, relocating his family to Canada for a fresh start. Meanwhile, Jake pursued his ion for combat sports, ultimately becoming a professional MMA fighter.

In his debut match for ONE Championship, Jake faced Kohei Shinjo, delivering a dominant performance that culminated in a victory after three rounds of intense competition. Despite facing adversity due to his disability, Jake's resilience and skill were evident as he emerged victorious, leaving his opponent battered and bruised.

Determined to succeed

Born with a rare condition that resulted in the absence of his right hand and forearm, Jake refuses to let his disability hinder his aspirations in the world of MMA. His determination to succeed in the sport serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the power of perseverance and self-belief.

"A lot of people come into the fight and maybe think that is my weaker side and are going to target that area but it has not worked out for anyone who has done that," he said according to The Sun.

"I can't help but finish people. I do damage with my right arm. I have dropped a couple of people.

"I manage my distance and range well and I make it uncomfortable for people.

"If they put it on me, I am going to try and give something back.

"I have always been strong and had good technique but when I turned pro I had a whole mindset shift. My mentality was different, I just had this killer instinct in me.

"My dad kicked balls for a living and I kick people's heads.

"My granddad played over 500 games for Charlton so it is in the blood."
