Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev's taunting themselves to make the UFC fight happen has fans and professionals excited to see if Pereira can hold on to his undefeated record after serious assertations from Ankalaev who is convinced he can knock him down and take the championship away from him. Pereira made a clear response to his claims.
Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka showed what he is capable of
In his last fight, Pereira, 37 swung a devastating kick to the head of Jiri Prochazka during UFC 303 and knocked the former champion out. Right after the fight, Magomed Ankalaev made a video saying he'd own the octagon as soon as he stepped on it against Pereira.
Pereira recently responded clearly to Magomed Ankalaev
Pereira made a quick YouTube video and addressed Magomed Ankalaev's insinuations "You guys saw, a lot of people trying to self-promote. Trying to belittle me, saying they will knock me out, and finish me... but I'm training, evolving... I just started evolving now, that's the difference. [I was] able to go toe to toe with just kickboxing. Now I'm evolving, so each fight it's getting harder for them."
Magomed Ankalaev met Johnny Walker (16-8) and after a very short fight, he threw an illegal knee to the Brazilian. The doctor checked the man from Rio de Janeiro. He should have been disqualified, thus sparing himself from an even bigger fall.
Then, the UFC decided to re-schedule Ankalaev and Walker for the first event of 2024, Fight Night 84 at the Apex in Las Vegas, and for the Russian, there were few options. He could not afford to let them continue to doubt him. A loss would be dramatic in his career. And he went from the bizarre to resurgence. Walker came out all guns blazing, pressing and punching. But the Russian was able to bounce back.
Something strange being from Dagestan, home of fighters on the ground. Ankalaev prefers to stand and in the second round he connected with a tremendous right jab that sent Walker to the floor. From there he would not get up and the Russian, a contender who experienced a dramatic year, had re-emerged. 12 fights without a loss and a message to champion Alex Pereira. "He won't need to fight on the ground. I'm going to go get him and stand there," he said. He's back.
Ankalaev is ready to fight Pereira after he's strengthened his bid for the light heavyweight title by beating Johnny Walker, thus moving up to the #2 spot in the UFC light heavyweight list. He is now a top contender for a title shot against Alex Pereira, however, Pereira has other commitments.
