Jon Jones is widely recognized as one of the most iconic figures in mixed martial arts, particularly in the heavyweight division.
His dominance in the sport has earned him a reputation as one of the greatest fighters ever. UFC CEO Dana White recently fueled this narrative by naming Jones the top pound-for-pound fighter of all time, a declaration that has sparked reactions across the MMA community, including some pushback from interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall, who has been eager to face Jones, was less than pleased with White's comments. Following his recent title defense against Curtis Blaydes, the British fighter took to his YouTube channel to express his dissatisfaction. Aspinall didn't hold back in criticizing what he sees as White's preferential treatment of Jones, making it clear that he believes his own achievements warrant more recognition.
"This week, actually, we've got a cracking video coming out," he noted.
"We're going to clap back, clapping back...How do I feel about fighting the pound-for-pound No.1 in the world? Make sure you like and subscribe [his channel]. You're going to find out this week.
"I'm going to reply to Dana White. I'm going to reply to Jon Jones. And we're coming for you, man. Jon Jones, we are coming for you on the channel - not just on the channel, we're coming for you in the octagon, as well," said Aspinall via his YouTube channel.
Aspinall's frustration stems from his ongoing pursuit of a unification bout with Jones, a fight he has been campaigning for over several months.
However, with the UFC scheduling Jones to face Stipe Miocic in November, Aspinall's hopes for an immediate showdown have been put on hold, adding to his growing discontent.
White confident that the two men will face each other
Dana White recently suggested that before Jones hangs up his gloves, a match against the surging Tom Aspinall could be on the horizon. White's remarks, made during an interview discussing the future landscape of the heavyweight division, have set the stage for what could be one of the most highly anticipated bouts in recent UFC history.
"I don't know what Jon Jones will do after this fight, but I would be shocked if he didn't want to test himself against Aspinall," said White.
