- UFC. Can Conor McGregor achieve political success like these other athletes?
UFC are beginning to wonder if they'll ever see Conor McGregor return to the octagon as his absence drags on.
The Irishman's future was once again thrown into doubt after his long-overdue battle with Michael Chandler was officially cancelled last week.
Chandler will now face Charles Oliveira in a rematch in November, a decision which reportedly left 'The Notorious' blindsided.
The announcement also came as a shock to UFC fans, who have been clamouring to see McGregor compete given he hasn't been in a fight since breaking his leg over three years ago.
White certain McGregor will return
Although fans are skeptical, it appears UFC boss Dana White isn't. When asked about McGregor's future, White made it clear he expects the Irishman to step into the octagon in 2025.
"Yes. I wasn't 100 percent in 2024, but I am in 2025," he said.
"I just am. I know more than you guys know. I'm 100 percent confident McGregor will fight next year."
McGregor was slated to return to UFC against Chandler in June, but that fight was called off after he suffered a broken toe.
The fight was expected by many to take place in December, but UFC have gone in a different direction despite McGregor's frustrations.
"Give me my f***ing date!," McGregor wrote on X.
He later added: "As far as Chandler rematching Oliveira, I'm happy with the date.
"It's November. Maybe we can still do it after, if they're not going to line me up until December, maybe January or February, one of these dates.
"Maybe we can still do it. I'm just a bit out of the loop with it. All I can do is carry on doing what I'm doing.
"I test under the testing istration, I train daily, and that's it.
"Let's see what happens. Hopefully, it all comes to fruition."
