Sean O'Malley, who recently lost his bantamweight title to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 306, is making headlines with his outspoken challenge to the fight's outcome.
Despite the widespread perception of Dvalishvili's dominance, O'Malley remains adamant that he was the rightful victor, suggesting there were other forces at play in his UFC demise.
In the wake of the fight, O'Malley has expressed frustration with the decision, asserting that he won three of the five rounds, specifically the first, third, and fifth.
O'Malley is pinning the blame on the fight's judges
According to O'Malley, biased commentary and judging influenced the decision in Dvalishvili's favor, and he believes the fight should be reviewed without commentary for a fair assessment.
"The narrative around this fight is that I got my ass whooped," O'Malley declared in a recent Twitter Space with fans.
"I'm going to ask the UFC to post the fight on YouTube. I won the first, third, and fifth rounds. I challenge everyone to rewatch the fight with the commentary off and tell me I did not win.
"I'm the champ, I won! Let's go!"
O'Malley's assertion adds a new dimension to the post-fight discourse, prompting fans and analysts to reconsider the bout's outcome.
However, given the reaction from those within the UFC, it's unlikely this outburst will be well received.
Dana White compared O'Malley to his compatriot Conor McGregor before his defeat to Dvalishvili, yet he will be hoping he isn't bringing the same level of controversy away from the octagon than the Notorious One has done.
Meanwhile there is now a battle on to secure O'Malley's next fight, with interest in seeing him again somewhat diminished after his recent defeat.
It is a possibility that his claims about poor judging are merely a strategy to force a rematch or get fans interested in his next bout.
