- UFC. Dana White 'orders' Jon Jones to fight Tom Aspinall for UFC heavyweight championship
Despite his dominance in the octagon not even Jon Jones can escape fan criticism.
The 37-year-old recently made a triumphant return a UFC 309 against Stipe Miocic. The fight was originally scheduled to take place on November 11, 2023 at UFC 295, however Jones was forced to pull out after tearing a pictorial tendon.
As a result the fight was delayed for close to a year, but Jones didn't disappoint once the bell rang, defeating Miocic by technical knockout thanks to a spinning back kick followed by punches in the third round.
Despite the spectacular showing some fans were quick to criticize Jones, as some feel he is a ducking a fight with Tom Aspinall.
Jones hits back
Never one to back down, Jones took to X to hit back at fans suggesting that is the case.
He pointed out that despite taking part in just two fights in four years, he remains one of UFC's biggest names.
Jones also made it clear that his achievements are the result of hard work and blessings, and that his resume speaks for itself.
"Crazy how being called a 'duck' pays better than most of you Internet tough guys will make in a lifetime. Two fights in four years and still one of the biggest names in the sport? That's not ducking, that's winning. God's blessings hit different, stay mad," said Jones.
It remains to be seen whether Jones' response will satisfy those fans who want to see him face Aspinall. Although Aspinall is the interim UFC heavyweight champion, it appears Jones views him as too inexperienced and not really a challenge.
Instead, he has been pushing for a high-stakes battle with Alex Pereira. There is also the small detail of Jones claiming he would vacate the belt before retiring, leaving fans wondering if he will ever step into the octagon again.
