Conor McGregor has never shied away from making headlines, and his latest declaration might be one of his most audacious yet. The former UFC double champion has expressed serious interest in running for president of Ireland, sparking widespread speculation about his fighting future.

While McGregor insists he would continue competing even if elected, his recent comments suggest that his time in the UFC may be coming to an end.

McGregor's bold presidential dream

During a BKFC 70 post-fight press conference, McGregor was pressed on whether he would still step into the Octagon if he won the presidency. In true "Notorious" fashion, he responded with unwavering confidence, even dramatizing how his fight introduction would sound: "And now entering the Octagon, 'The Notorious President of Ireland,' Conor McGregor."

While the idea of a sitting world leader engaging in professional combat is unprecedented, McGregor insists that this is part of what drives his political aspirations. "That's the best part of why I want to do it. To be announced as the president of Ireland having a fight. Imagine that. For sure, hell yes," he declared.

Retirement on the horizon?

Despite McGregor's insistence that he would continue fighting, his recent statements suggest that his UFC career might be winding down. He revealed that his next planned fight was against Michael Chandler, but beyond that, he wasn't certain. More intriguingly, he mentioned that he had been offered an opportunity to fight at the historic Alcatraz Island but ultimately declined the deal.

The 36-year-old fighter also hinted at newfound priorities after a visit to the White House, where he reflected on the state of his home country. "Last week something happened to me. I went to the White House, and my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there's a lot of stuff going on back home, I'm happy with what I've done," he shared.

Given his massive influence and business ventures, McGregor stepping away from fighting wouldn't be surprising. Whether he follows through with his presidential bid or not, his impact on combat sports is undeniable. But if his UFC run is indeed over, fans may have already witnessed the last of "The Notorious" inside the Octagon.
