Kamaru Usman became the first African fighter to win an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title on 2019, cementing his legacy on the discipline.
The "Nigerian Nightmare" established his dominance one fight at a time, establishing himself as one of the most formidable forces in the UFC with a combination of exceptional skills and amazing work ethic.
But Usman's dominance began to tremble when he lost to Leon Edwards in a rematch of their 2015 fight - a bout that the African won -. Kamaru was the clear favorite to win but lost the event and his title via knockout late in the fifth round, marking his first fight inside the UFC.
Kamaru Usman freaks out MMA fans
The former champion has tried to get back to his best level but his last fight was against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 on October 2023, where he lost by majority decision. Before that, he fought Edwards once again only to lose by majority decision.
The Nigerian fighter is actively seeking a return to fighting and has publicly expressed interest in facing Belal Muhammad, fueled by a feud, and has been mentioned in connection with other potential matchups. That's one of the reasons why fans believe he's not going to be in championship shape once again.
Some of those fans were asked during a UFC promotion what they thought about Kamaru Usman, without knowing that the fighter was listening to their thoughts. Some people straight up said that the Nigerian athlete would never become the champion again. Others had doubts about his ability to make it back to the top of the ladder.
Fans are left speechless seeing the former champion
When Usman pops out of to confront the fans, some of them tried to play it off by saying that they were just kidding, while others were completely shocked to see the former UFC champion next to them. However, Dylan - a young wrestling fan - didn't backed down from his comments, which suprised Kamaru and he told the youngester that he respected his attitude.
"I dared to be great and fell short. Sometimes this is the journey of life. I prey I never complain about the cards I've been dealt for I have been blessed beyond my wildest dreams." posted Kamaru on social media, adressing the criticism he's received about his comeback.
As Usman prepares for his fighting comeback, he's repeatedly shunned some callouts from contenders like Ian Machado Garry, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Joaquin Buckley. Whatever happens in the future, UFC fans would dearly appreciate that Kamaru is making one final run at greatness.
