In advance of their Monday World Cup opening against Wales, the United States men's national team got a special message of from President Joe Biden over the weekend.
On Friday evening at approximately 11:30 p.m. local time, as they were in what appeared to be a sizable room at their hotel in Qatar, the 46th President of the United States called head coach Gregg Berhalter and the players.
The Americans are participating in their first World Cup since 2018 and are grouped with England and Iran in Group B. Before asking the team to give it their all and saying that the entire country is behind them, Biden made jokes with the group.
"Coach, put me on, I'm ready to play," president Biden joked. "I know you're the underdog, but I'll tell you what, man, you've got some of the best players in the world on your team. You are representing this country, and I know you're gonna play your hearts out. So let's go shock 'em all."
"Keep trusting one another, play as hard as you can, and you know, for you and your families, your teammates, and the whole country is rooting for you," he continued.

It's not unusual for the President to call the national teams. President Barack Obama ed the U.S. women's national team after they defeated Japan to win the World Cup in 2015 and congratulated them.
However, hearing from the nation's elected leader, who took time out of his busy schedule to speak with them, would still be an exciting experience for the players. It would probably give them a little boost of confidence and energy before such an important game.
