The middleweight boxing match between Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KO) and Jaime Munguia (39-0, 31 KO), originally slated for this summer, has been suspended after a failure to reach an agreement over broadcast rights.
There is still a chance the fight could take place this year, but for now, Charlo-Munguia is, for all intents and purposes, cancelled after disagreements over the TV deal in the USA.
According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN, Premier Boxing (PBC) wanted the fight on Showtime PPV, but Golden Boy Promotions wanted their partner, DAZN, involved. PBC were only willing to give DAZN the rights for Mexico and the UK and talks hit a stalemate when Golden Boy refused to reply.
The WBC has now mandated that Munguia fight Carlos Adames (21-1, 16 KO) to determine who will ultimately go for the belt against Charlo. Adames is another Premier Boxing fighter who has made great strides in recent months.
With rumours circling that Demetrius Andrade could be moving up to middleweight, that could leave the WBO middleweight title vacant, which Munguia could also be a contender for.
