The Terence Crawford vs. Saul Alvarez fight is still on the table for a possible negotiation, but first Canelo must fulfill his commitment against Edgar Berlanga on September 14, and then make a fight that any boxing fan would like to see, even though there may be complications due to the weight difference.
It is precisely this point on which Israil Madrimov focuses his opinion, after losing this Saturday by unanimous decision to Crawford, where he realized firsthand the quality of 'Bud', whom he described as the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but when questioned about whether he would have a chance against Canelo, he said he felt doubts, although it would depend on the weight they agree on.
"I don't know, it depends on what weight they fight at. But if they fight in Canelo's current weight class, then I think it will be very difficult for Crawford because he's huge," Madrimov noted, although he acknowledged that Crawford has punch and talent. "There's no doubt he has power, there's no doubt he has skills, I knew it, that's why this fight was so close."
Crawford and trainer contradict each other on motivation to face Canelo
Prior to 'Bud's' fight against Madrimov, the conversation turned to the possibility of facing Canelo Alvarez and his trainer Brian McIntyre told BoxingScene that greatness is what they are looking for, "He has to know. He wants to get to the next level. Always."
But when interviewed after beating Madrimov, Crawford was more along the lines of Alvarez's speech and appealed that in order to finalize a fight against the Mexican, a purse worth the money has to be agreed upon first.
"If the money is right... we have a fight, but at the same time he has a fight he's focused on. I'm going to go back to my family, relax, enjoy this victory and enjoy all my accomplishments in the sport of boxing," Crawford said.
