The boxing world is keeping a close eye on the immediate future of two of the sport's most prominent fighters: Canelo Alvarez and Artur Beterbiev.
Saul Alvarez is the most economically impactful fighter today and, like Beterbiev, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
And Beterbiev is the unified light heavyweight champion after defeating Dmitry Bivol on October 12 in Saudi Arabia.
Canelo vs Beterbiev fight gains momentum
After the controversial victory of Artur Beterbiev over Bivol by majority decision, the possibility of a rematch between the two Russian-born fighters immediately arose, but there seems to be considerable interest in a fight between the champion and Alvarez.
Bob Arum, founder of the Top Rank promotional company, has shown interest in putting Beterbiev against Canelo Alvarez, before a possible rematch with Bivol.
"We could completely abandon the idea of a rematch. There are proposals for bigger fights right now, but if we talk about a rematch, it might not happen before the end of 2025," Russian news agency TASS quotes Izquierdazo as saying.
"Turki (Alalshikh), who is a guy who loves boxing, wants to see a rematch and I think people would like to see a rematch, but, as the Riyadh Season ends in February, the earliest date for a rematch would be until next October," Arum told the Fight Freaks United podcast.
Artur Beterbiev not interested in Dmitry Bivol
In addition, Beterbiev has already stated that he does not want a rematch with Bivol unless the financial offer is worthwhile.
"In my opinion, there is no point in talking about a rematch. Of course, if an interesting offer comes along, we will consider it. But, is there any reason for a rematch? Everything was clear (in the fight)."
