After a pre-season period where it took Mercedes and Sir Lewis Hamilton an age to come to a contract extension agreement, the British driver has itted that he hopes to drive for Mercedes in the 2022 Formula 1 season as well.
Just what the delay was in Hamilton reg with the German team remains unclear, although curiously he only signed a one-year deal for the 2021 season.
"I want to drive here again next year," Hamilton itted.
After the Imola race, Hamilton took part in a test of Pirelli tires which are 18-inches, with the tire company looking to refine their product for the 2022 season.
"I would like to help Pirelli make a better product because I want to be here next year," Hamilton added.
Hamilton currently sits top of the drivers' standings by one solitary point after two races, but he is convinced that the battle with Red Bull is good for the sport.
"They are still ahead of us in of performance," Hamilton continued.
"I'm enjoying this battle that we're having. It's really exciting and even more challenging."
With the news coming that sporting institutions are taking part in a campaign to combat racism on social media in the UK, the former McLaren driver has lent the full weight of his behind the initiative.
"I fully the initiative and will put pressure on those platforms to help try and avoid it," Hamilton detailed.
"I was abused a long, long time ago, when I was younger and when I used to read social media, trying to relate to people.
"There was a period of time where I took it personally and let things get to me, it's clear to me that racism is still a problem and I think social networks must do more to combat it."
