What was born as a solution for this year's Canadian Grand Prix has turned out to be a headache for riders and race direction. The crash barriers installed to prevent riders from jumping the first corner will be removed for Sunday afternoon's race after riders had problems on that part of the track.
Once most of the riders had made an excursion around the area, it quickly became clear how much more dangerous it was to the track because of the grass area (painted black) where the riders were re-entering the track. Race Direction eventually reversed their decision and the wall disappeared.
The qualifying session, with the rain as the main protagonist, left us with images such as Lewis Hamilton's return to the track, where he almost took Max Verstappen with him when he reed the race.
Race Direction has provided the drivers with the correct way to return to the track, if there is any exit through turns 1-2. The protection installed this year lasted exactly four sessions.
The first two turns at Gilles Villaneuve are back to normal.
