Sergio Perez picks his best F1 teammate and his answer comes as a surprise

Sergio Perez, with 13 seasons in Formula 1 and six different teammates, has shifted his opinion on who he considers the best among them.

After initially naming Nico Hulkenberg as the top team-mate in 2017, Perez now believes that Max Verstappen holds that particular distinction.

In a recent social media interview with Banorte, Perez praised Verstappen and claimed the Dutchman was in the prime of his career.

"He's a very complete driver," Perez told Banorte.

"He is in his best moment, and I have a lot of respect for everything he is doing.

"We have to recognize his season because he has worked hard and deserves it."

In his first two years, Checo teamed up with Kamui Kobayashi ; where his performances took him to McLaren to share the grid with a world champion, Jenson Button .

He was rescued by Force India in 2014, teaming up with Nico Hulkenberg until Esteban Ocon arrived in 2017 ; then for 2019, with the name change to Racing Point, he was paired with Lance Stroll

What next for Sergio Perez?

Looking ahead to his future beyond Formula 1, the 33-year-old driver from Guadalajara envisions himself being a successful businessman.

While Perez generally ruled out racing in other series, suggesting that IndyCar wasn't on his radar, the Mexican did suggest that the possibility of competing in the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours could intrigue him if the right opportunity came his way.

"I don't have another category in mind, I would like to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but only if the right opportunity came along," he continued.

"Other than that, today I would say no, but I don't know what will happen when I leave F1."

How does Perez feel his 2023 season has gone?

Reflecting on his 2023 season with Red Bull, Perez acknowledged the mental challenges but emphasized the positive aspects, expressing determination to fight for the Formula 1 crown next year.

"It was a tough season mentally, but it was also very good at the start of the season and we were able to pull it off," he concluded.

"We are going to fight for it again next year, hopefully it will be a fight from start to finish and we will have learned from what happened this season."
