Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are the clear protagonists of this year's Formula 1 World Championship, the Red Bull and McLaren drivers are in the final stretch to reach the title. After a break, the competition returned a week ago in Austin, and this ended up being a very positive Grand Prix for the leader, as he was able to increase his lead over the second-placed driver. But finally everything was overshadowed by an on-track battle that ended with a penalty for the '4'.
Although the final test on American soil was dominated by Ferrari, the battle to get on the podium was one of the best moments of last Sunday's race, as they were not simply securing a place in the top three, but were playing for key points for the World Championship. There was a great deal of controversy over the way the Dutchman defended himself, which ended with both cars off the track and only the papaya driver being penalised. Now in the week of the Mexican GP, the Red Bull Racing driver has had enough of the criticism for his performance.
Verstappen's response
The three-time world champion was the subject of much criticism from people who did not share the FIA's decision. What was seen on the track made the Woking team so angry that they complained to the Federation. A week later, the number one is satisfied with the podium he achieved: "I didn't expect to be able to keep him behind me, because they were much faster. I did everything I could and in the end, we finished ahead of him, of course with that penalty, so we can't complain."
After the incident in which Lando tried to overtake Max and ended up getting ahead after returning to the track, the Red Bull driver told his team that they had to complain, as this was not legal in his opinion. The FIA ended up agreeing with him, but it was a decision that has been widely criticised and he seems to have a clear idea of the reason: "I have the wrong port, it's not the right country, to complain".
After this sarcastic comment, to clear up any doubts, he was asked if he was referring to the British port, and the driver did not hesitate to answer: "In that respect, yes. I'm very happy with my port, but in that area, apparently, I should have had a different port". This is not the first time a driver has complained about the difference in treatment depending on which country you belong to, as Fernando Alonso himself has made clear in the past.
