After nearly a decade of legal battles and public scrutiny, Brad Pitt is finally speaking out about the official end of his marriage to Angelina Jolie. In an interview with GQ, the 61-year-old actor offered a surprisingly subdued take on the long-awaited divorce finalization.
"No, I don't think it was that major of a thing," Pitt said when asked if he felt relief about the legal conclusion of their split. "Just something coming to fruition. Legally."
His tone may come as a surprise to many, given the high-profile nature of their relationship and the lengthy, often painful legal proceedings. Jolie, 49, filed for divorce back in September 2016, marking the beginning of what would become one of Hollywood's most complex and emotionally charged separations.
Jolie's focus on healing and family
Jolie's legal team has painted a very different emotional landscape. In a statement made after the divorce settlement was finalized in late 2024, her lawyer emphasized the toll it had taken.
"More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt," the statement read. "She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family."
Jolie reportedly waived all rights to spousal as part of the agreement, making it clear her priority has always been the well-being of her children. The former couple shares six kids: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16).
A fractured family
Despite the legal closure, Pitt's relationship with his children remains distant and strained. Reports suggest that none of the children are currently on speaking with their father. Some have even taken steps to drop his last name-most notably, his biological daughter Shiloh.
Last year, a source told People that Pitt was deeply hurt by the growing distance. "He loves his children and misses them. It's very sad." One report even resurfaced a 2020 Father's Day message from Pax, calling his father a "world class a-hole" and criticizing his behavior during a 2016 altercation.
For Pitt, the legal divorce may be finalized-but the emotional consequences are far from over.
