Ben Affleck is considered one of the best actors of recent times. The American catapulted himself to fame with the turn of the new millennium, but before that he had already had with the big screen in films such as 'Armageddon' or 'Good Will Hunting', for which he was recognised by the industry.
But during those years, Ben Affleck also played other roles that he could have done better, as the artist himself has confessed. It was in the movie 'Chasing Amy' where Ben Affleck realized that something would have to change in him, so he considered it as "internalized homophobia".
In this film, Ben Affleck has to kiss a cast member. Recently, in an interview, the actor reflected on his role in 'Chasing Amy' and how much things have changed in the last 30 years since the film was released.
"It was very suggestive to me in of the homosexuality between the two friends. What is also a love relationship between two men? Because you love this other man, we have friendships with men that we love very much," explained the actor.
Ben Affleck: "I did a lousy and unconvincing job"
After mentioning the affair between Holden and Banky, the actor reflected on it: "It was a way of looking at, well, how is this also like gay relationships? Or maybe there's a continuation or a spectrum, and I thought that was honest".
Finally, he acknowledged what he had to do to be able to face the role in 'Chasing Amy': "Frankly, I had to challenge my own internalized homophobia because I found it really difficult to kiss Jason. And I thought, 'This is really embarrassing. It's something I clearly have internalized. Why is it so hard for me to kiss a man?'"
Finally, the actor assessed how his work on the film went: "I still think I did a lousy, unconvincing job, and I'm very disappointed. I would love to have the opportunity to do better."
