Just as the actor who plays Spider-Man changes, with Tom Holland now playing the role, Aunt May also changes. In the latest Spider-Man films, it has been actress Marisa Tomei who has played the role.

One of the things that has attracted the most attention is that Uncle Ben does not appear anywhere, in fact, May has an affair with Iron Man's assistant, Happy Hogan. This has made many wonder why, something that the actress herself has answered.

"There was a moment, before Happy's story came along, where I thought, 'Maybe I should be with a woman'. Because Ben is gone and she should be with someone so we were talking about it. In fact, I wanted Amy Pascal from Sony to be my girlfriend. I told her, 'no one has to know it's you, just be in the scene and let the subtext be understood," Tomei explained to Geeks of Color.

However, this idea did not go down well with Sony and Marvel, who decided to keep Happy Hogan, played by Jon Favreau, as the love interest of Tom Holland's Aunt May. What's more, he also spoke about this supposed relationship:

"I really think their relationship is more of friends," he said. "They're together even though they don't talk about anything other than Peter Parker, they like each other in a way and they had fun through an adventure, but they're still more friends."

Counting all the films in the Marvel universe, not just the Spider-Man films, Marisa Tomei has appeared in five, dying in the last one, so it is foreseeable that she will not appear again. For the moment, she is the Aunt May who has appeared in more films, suring the previous two: Rosemary Harris (3) and Sally Margaret Field (2).
