There is still plenty of bad blood between the two

The rift between Prince William and Prince Harry appears far from healed, despite recent reports that William is open to the idea of forgiveness.

However, insiders suggest that any reconciliation would come at a steep price for Harry and Meghan Markle, as the Prince of Wales reportedly demands more than words to repair the fractured relationship.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have engaged in multiple high-profile interviews and media projects that have painted the royal family in a negative light.

Prince Harry's most recent appearance, in a BBC interview, only intensified the divide. In it, Harry criticized the royal establishment's handling of his personal security and expressed feelings of abandonment by his father, King Charles III.

Though he voiced a desire to reconcile, the remarks reportedly struck a nerve, particularly with Prince William.

Trust is the real issue

While forgiveness might sound like a hopeful step forward, sources close to the royal household say that the issue runs deeper than simple amends.

Trust, they argue, is what's truly broken-and it won't be easily restored. William, according to insiders, is reluctant to rebuild any kind of relationship with his brother without firm commitments that future private family matters will not be aired in public again.

"I genuinely think nobody trusts him, and that's the bottom line," a royal source told Page Six about Harry.

"The royal family has major trust issues with him and that's what's at the heart of everything. They don't trust him and Meghan, and that's why they can't have a relationship ... maybe there's room to forgive, but they won't forget."

Royal experts say that William's hesitation is partly rooted in Harry and Meghan's previous public disclosures, which included criticism of the monarchy, claims of mistreatment, and accusations of racism. These revelations, shared in interviews and their Netflix docies, have caused significant strain on the family's internal dynamics.

What appears to frustrate William most, reports suggest, is the lack of a direct apology or genuine acknowledgment from Harry for the damage those actions have caused.

For the Prince of Wales, any path to reconciliation would require more than just verbal regret-it would require action, transparency, and long-term consistency.

There are also whispers within royal circles that William is reconsidering the future of the Sussexes' HRH titles. While no official move has been made, speculation continues that William, once king, could push to formally sever those royal ties, especially if the current tensions remain unresolved.

As the monarchy adapts to changing times and public scrutiny, William's cautious approach seems focused on protecting the integrity and privacy of the institution. Whether Harry and Meghan are willing to meet those conditions remains unclear.

For now, the hope of reconciliation lingers-but so does a deeply rooted mistrust that only time and genuine effort might heal.
