The Transport Security istration could be set to relax their strict rules on 11 liquids that engers can now carry onto aeroplanes thanks to modern technology allowing for better screening, but what are the liquids in question?
Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, commonly known as 9/11, security at airports have been very strict and very harsh on the items people can take aboard a plane in order to prevent such a tragic loss of life from ever happening again.
Electronics, clothing, liquids and any kind of metals are all scrutinized with immense focus from the TSA to prevent harmful substances from coming onto the flight, including things such as make-up, shampoo and perfumes.
But 11 liquids can be taken aboard without adhering to the 3-1-1 rule so what are they? Firstly, over-the-counter prescription medicines and lens solution can be taken as long as they're in "reasonable quantities."
Secondly, freezer or ice packs to keep medication and other medical equipment (syringes/IV bags) cool, can also be taken aboard. Fresh eggs, fish being transported in water and wet batteries are three more items exempt, as are breast milk, baby formula and liquid-filled items to combat teething as well as food and drink for toddlers.
Duty-free items purchased within the airport can go through security as long as they're in bags that will immediately show if they have been tampered with, reports Conde Nast Traveler. However, the TSA reserves the right to test any items they are suspicious of.
A revolution to the liquids rule
Liquids are especially limited to 3.4 ounces per bottle provided it fits into a single bag that must be able to close. But now new computer tomography scanners, which make use of 3D imaging, could allow engers to take some of these aboard to an unlimited sum.
The United Kingdom will serve as the guinea pig for the experiment as they plan to lift limitations on some items through select airports thanks to the better screening and if it is successful then the technology could head to the USA too.
It will allow for better convenience and faster security times, two of the things Americans are most agitated about when they're moving through airports and are well aware they're not breaching any rules.
