Airlines around the world have been grounded after a glitch in the CrowdStrike security software has laid waste to Microsoft Windows and devastated the ability of companies around the world to safely fly customers between destinations.
Over 1000 flights have been grounded in the United States, with Delta, United and American Airlines all being affected according to the Federal Aviation istration (FAA). The trio are three of the biggest suppliers within the nation, highlighting the extent of the problem posed to them.
Some 45000 aircraft transport over 2.9 million Americans around the world per day so the outage is a major inconvenient and could disrupt many important plans through the days but how do you know if your airline provider or flight has been disrupted?
Along with American Airlines, Delta and United, Frontier, Allegiant and Sun Country have all faced disruption and been grounded. International companies such as Virgin Australia and Qantas have been impacted, as well as flights through Europe and Asia.
Frontier are offering refunds to any customers impacted by the outage but there is no guarantee that the other companies will do so. Be sure to check with your airline regarding your flight before travel.
American Airlines back up and running
Fortunately, CrowdStrike and Microsoft both believe they are starting to get on top of the issue and have identified solutions and American Airlines have already managed to get themselves back into the air.
The Texas-based company, which transports more engers than anyone else, released a statement confirming they are back to operational standard with their fleet of up to 970 aeroplanes.
"Earlier this morning, a technical issue with a vendor impacted multiple carriers," American Airlines said in a statement. "Including American [Airlines].
"As of 5 a.m. ET, we have been able to safely re-establish our operation. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience."
