This Sunday, June 1, 2025, a violent attack shook the city of Boulder, Colorado, when a man threw Molotov cocktails at participants in a peaceful walk held in of Israeli hostages in Gaza. The FBI has identified the suspect as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman and is investigating the incident as an ideologically motivated act of terrorism.
The attack occurred around 1:26 p.m. at Pearl Street Mall during a walk organized by the group "Run For Their Lives," which aims to raise awareness about Israeli hostages in Gaza. According to witnesses, Soliman shouted "Free Palestine!" and used an improvised flamethrower against the demonstrators, injuring six people, some of whom suffered serious burns
Official Reactions
FBI Director Kash Patel described the incident as a "targeted terrorist attack". Colorado Governor Jared Polis condemned the act, stating that "acts of hate of any kind are unacceptable"
This attack comes amid rising tensions and antisemitic violence in the United States, intensified by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Less than two weeks earlier, two employees of the Israeli embassy were killed in Washington, D.C., in an incident also considered a hate crime.
Ongoing Investigation
Soliman was detained at the scene and taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Authorities have not yet filed formal charges, but he is expected to face serious accusations related to terrorism and aggravated assault.
The Boulder community and civil rights organizations have expressed concern over the increase in hate-driven violence and have called for a firm response from authorities to prevent future attacks.
This incident underscores the urgent need to address ideological extremism and to protect people's right to protest peacefully without fear of violent retaliation.
