The Social Security istration (SSA) is preparing to make a new round of payments next week to cover essential income for retirement, disability pensions and survivor benefits
In May, theSSA already completed the first payment, aimed at those who began receiving benefits before 1997. The next payment is scheduled for Wednesday, 14, when the next round of deposits will be made.
Although the deposit is made once a month, its exact date varies according to established criteria. The payment schedule is organized according to the beneficiaries' date of birth: those born between the 1st and 10th of the month receive their deposit on the second Wednesday; those born between the 11th and 20th receive their deposit on the third Wednesday; and those born between the 21st and 31st receive their deposit on the fourth Wednesday. This division seeks to avoid system saturation and ensure that funds arrive in an orderly and timely manner. Beneficiaries who are on next week's list are those who were born between May 1 and May 10.
In addition to the regular pension program, the SSA also manages Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which is aimed at people who are elderly, blind or severely disabled. This payment is usually issued at the beginning of each month and varies according to the economic and family conditions of the beneficiary.
The amount of Social Security payments depends on lifetime earnings and retirement age. For example, those who retire at age 62 receive an average of $2,831 per month; if they wait until age 67, the figure rises to $3,822; and if they delay retirement until age 70, they can reach a maximum of $5,108 per month.
