History never ceases to surprise us day after day. The example comes from Peru, where a mummy more than 5,000 years old has been found in a waste plant. It was found in Aspero, part of the ancient Caral civilization of Peru
This is the 5,000-year-old mummy that has appeared in Peru
Everything indicates that the mummy found is of an elite woman of the ancient Peruvian civilization. Her discovery stands out for its great preservation of the skin, hair and nails. The woman was buried between 3,000 and 1,800 BC, according to preliminary estimates. She also wore a luxurious funerary outfit, a cloak of blue and gold macaw feathers, a stone bowl and a straw basket with a toucan beak, indicating that she was a privileged woman of the time. The find was led by archaeologist David Palomino.
The place where this mummy was found was full of waste from the 1960s to the 1990s, when it was archaeologically revalued. The Catral civilization was one of the oldest in America.David Palomino, leader of the discovery, said: "This mummy is a clear example that women could also be privileged even though all those who enjoyed these were men".
This is not the first such discovery, as it adds to that of the Lady of the Four Tupus, another aristocratic woman from Caral, who was found with her head tied and a necklace of sea shells. So far, experts led by David Palomino are working to uncover more details about these two women found in the ancient Caral civilization of Peru.
