The trade deadline is fast approaching for Major League Baseball clubs and it can be an extremely stressful time of year, especially if a team has not managed to get their business done to the level that they expected.
The trade deadline is August 1 and there is plenty of intrigue about what unusual deals could go through as the deadline approaches and people start to get desperate.
There are certain deals that fans are beginning to focus on more and more as the rumours start to intensify, so here is a look at what could happen as we get closer to that August 1 deadline.
MLB deals to keep an eye on
A major area of interest is Shohei Ohtani and his future with the Los Angeles Angels. The club has supposedly been in talks with a number of clubs about a possible trade. The overall belief is that he is going to stay with the Angels, as he will be out of contract in the winter.
Once he becomes a free agent, he is expected to command the biggest contract in the history of MLB, owing to his immense talent and standing within the sport.
Staying in Los Angeles, the Dodgers seem to have a lot of business left to do. They want depth for their starting rotation and bullpen, but they also want a right-handed platoon bat.
The Athletic has reported that Tommy Pham and Mark Canha from the New York Mets are candidates, as is Randal Grichuk of the Colorado Rockies and Tyler O'Neill and Dylan Carlson from the St. Louis Cardinals.
