After 8 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Diego Padres, then Blake Snell ed the San Francisco Giants. In his first year with this squad, the left-hander made history as he threw the first no-hitter in his major league career, after dominated against the Cincinnati Reds.
Snell took center stage at Great American Ball Park and, striking out 10, pitched the entire game for a no-hitter in the Giants' 3-0 victory. The reigning National League Cy Young winner walked three in 114 pitches, 78 of which were for strikes. This was his first complete game in 202 major league starts.
Snell, who is 31 years old, was the protagonist of the 18th no-hitter and no-run game in San Francisco history, being the third to be thrown in this Major League season.
Blake Snell is a part of history
The 2024 season barely had four days of activity when the first game without a hit or run arrived, after the Dominican Ronel Blanco of the Houston Astros hung the double zero against the Toronto Blue Jays.
But then came Dylan Cease on July 25 for the San Diego Padres and then Blake Snell on August 2 to add his name to the list of the 325 no-hitters that have been thrown in the history of the Majors.
It has been 138 years since the first no-hitter in history was recorded, which was on July 15, 1886, when George Bradley of the Brown Stockings scored a double zero against the Dark Blues, a game they won 2-0.
