The 2025 Caribbean Series continues and the Charros de Jalisco, representatives of Mexico, will seek their second victory of the tournament when they face the Cardenales de Lara of Venezuela this Saturday, February 1. After a solid debut against Puerto Rico, the Mexican team wants to maintain its good pace in the competition with its sights set on the semifinals.
Playes at the Nido de las Águilas Stadium in Mexicali, the Charros began their participation in the Caribbean classic with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Indios de Mayagüez of Puerto Rico. David Reyes' outstanding performance on the mound, with seven quality innings allowing only one run, gave Mexico a big advantage.
Manager Benjamín Gil has emphasized the importance of maintaining concentration and offensive rhythm. "Our team has great chemistry and we are focused on the goal, to be champions here in Mexicali," said the Mexican strategist.
The Cardinals of Lara, led by Henry Blanco, did not have the expected start after losing 2-0 to the Leones del Esgido of the Dominican Republic. Despite the loss, Venezuelan starter Máximo Castillo had a good performance, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing only three hits against a strong lineup that included Robinson Canó.
With a record of 0-1, the Cardinals need a victory to stay in the fight to qualify for the semifinals. To do this, their offense will have to wake up, since in their first game they were silenced by rival pitching.
