Joseph J Mascuch was an American businessman born in the late 19th century and resident of New Jersey (United States) who did very well in business. So far, we could say that everything is normal. But we are not talking about him because of how he amassed his fortune (which did not make him one of the richest Americans of the time), but rather because of how he spent it. Or, at least, how he spent it on a car.

4 essential tips to start preparing for retirement now

Mascuch wanted to indulge himself by buying a Rolls-Royce in the mid-1950s. However, it so happens that millionaires who have been rich for a long time sometimes want more than just luxury, they want it to be exclusive, something that only they have. So he ed the coachbuilder Alfredo Vignale in Italy and asked him for a unique creation based on the Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith.

Futuristic design

Vignale acquired the LCLW14 chassis (i.e. the car minus the bodywork and interior) and created a car that in our opinion is less graceful than the Silver Wraith that Rolls-Royce was selling, although undeniably much more futuristic. From the front it looked more like an American model, and the rear included a reverse slant windscreen which also had the possibility of being lowered.

But the most striking thing was not so much the design of the car as the requests that Mascuch made to Vignale. First of all, the statuette crowning the radiator had to be kneeling, something that Rolls-Royce usually reserved for cars delivered to kings and heads of state. In addition, he asked for the engine block to be painted green and some pipes to be chromed, which in the original Rolls came without any decoration.

Fridge, phone...

In addition, comfort had to make it possible for Mascuch to feel at ease in all possible situations: if he wanted to drink, he had a small refrigerator in which to chill a bottle of champagne. If he had to make an urgent call, he had a telephone housed on the left-hand side of the second row of seats.

He could also watch his favorite TV show thanks to a screen housed in a luxurious wooden cabinet. But the most striking thing was that he ordered the car with a toilet because he did not want to 'suffer' when he had a physiological urgency. And it wasn't just any toilet, as he asked for it to be gold-plated... What less, for his illustrious buttocks.

The big secret

Vignale solved it with a simple system: the right-hand side of the bench seat could be removed and then a hidden toilet was discovered through which everything the businessman relieved himself could go straight out onto the road. We understand, therefore, that the millionaire would have to travel unaccompanied, and that he would feel little modesty in pulling down his tros and performing such an intimate action while his chauffeur, we suppose, would raise the partition and continue driving without daring to move a muscle.
