Arunner died on Saturday while participating in the Brooklyn Half Marathon, according to race organizer New York Road Runners.
"We are deeply saddened to report the death of a participant in today's race," the company's CEO, Rob Simmelkjaer, told local media.
According to the New York Post, citing police sources, the deceased, Charles Rogers, was a 31-year-old man who was participating for the first time in this 21-kilometer race and suffered a medical problem.
Rogers was treated at the scene by emergency teams, who performed resuscitation techniques on him, and he was transferred to a local hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life, the newspaper adds.
In 2022, in the same race, which attracts some 28,000 participants, another runner, aged 32, died after crossing the finish line on a day of high temperatures.
