Look away, Arch Manning: PFF ranks Quinn Ewers very high among best quarterbacks in college football

Shedeur Sanders should be happy with his ranking, too.

Despite not being a starter for Texas, Arch Manning has been the talk of the offseason for a lot of fans. A five-star recruit out of high school, Manning only appeared for a few snaps in 2023 and was redshirted.

Fans want to see Manning play, but Quinn Ewers was too good as the starter last season for any type of Wally Pipp situation. He led Texas to the Big 12 Championship and was very efficient. He played so well that his ranking on Pro Football Focus' best starting quarterbacks list shouldn't come as a surprise.

Quinn Ewers ranked as 4th-best QB in nation

Ewers comes in at No. 4, ahead of some potentially very high future NFL Draft picks. This is what PFF had to say about the ranking.

Ewers will be under intense scrutiny as Texas aims for a national title and Arch Manning sits patiently behind him as the heir apparent to the starting job. However, Ewers was mostly excellent last season and gives the team a very high floor to work with. He's a terrific play-action er who is the right player for Steve Sarkisian's system. If he quickly builds chemistry with new weapons like Isaiah Bond and Silas Bolden, he should have another big season.

Despite Ewers' impressive 2023 season, it's still surprising to see him ranked ahead of so many talented signal-callers. This is how PFF's Top 10 shook out.

  1. Carson Beck, Georgia Bulldogs
  2. Dillon Gabriel, Oregon Ducks
  3. Shedeur Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes
  4. Quinn Ewers, Texas Longhorns
  5. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss Rebels
  6. Jalen Milroe, Alabama Crimson Tide
  7. Noah Fifita, Arizona Wildcats
  8. Garrett Greene, West Virginia Mountaineers
  9. Preston Stone, SMU Mustangs
  10. Brady Cook, Missouri Tigers

It will be tough for Manning to get on the field with a top quarterback in front of him, but anything is possible in college football. There definitely will be some pressure for Ewers to perform similarly to 2023.
