Northern Illinois just shocked the world. The Huskies beat Notre Dame in South Bend 16-14 on a late 35-yard field goal by Kanon Woodill to stun the Fighting Irish and the nation, as the number five team in the rankings have their first loss of the season.
The home team could not move the ball from early on but still they had a few opportunities, especially on field goal chances that just could not be capitalized Cade Haberman had two field goals blocked but probably the most important was the second one.
After NIU scored to take the late lead, Notre Dame drove down the field only to create a 62-yard field goal try, but the kick was once again blocked and the Huskies started to celebrate the huge historic upset.
His head coach was the one emotional
Thomas Hammock has coached this team well, after leading them to a big win. His emotions were shown and what a way to put the team first. During his postgame interview he talked about the work the whole teams has put in to achieve things like this.
"All these guys have been with our program, lived through the ups and downs and have continued to fight. It's like they're my kids...I just couldn't be more proud," he said, while in tears.
Let's not forget that he was a NIU football player, so people can only imagine what this means to him and the program. The victory over Notre Dame was the football team's first ever win over a Top 10 team.
