The Pac-12 has done it, sort of. The conference needed one more school to reach the minimum required to actually be considered a conference and it sent a message to the rest of the nation after convincing a top powerhouse in basketball.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs have accepted an invitation to the Pac-12 in all of the sports they pay in, something that has raised eyebrows because of the impact this will have in the college sports landscape.
While their programs are competitive, the men's basketball team is by far their best product. The Bulldogs have reached every men's NCAA tournament that has been played since 1999, this a streak of 25 straight years.
There is still a need for more
Despite having a top program as their eight , the Pac-12 still needs another partner that plays football. Oregon State, Washington State, San Diego State, Boise State, Fresno State, Utah State and Colorado State all play football and Gonzaga does not.
This still has put the conference on the look to ad an eight-football participant to go along with the rest of the league. With this said, after a few schools have committed to stay where they are, the need to convince someone else is inevitable.
While it is true that the Pac-12 still has almost two years to convince a university to them, there has to be a penalty fee to be paid in order to leave a league, therefore the sooner they can convince a school, the better, because of the fact that a conference has a higher fee with less noticed time.
