Colorado came into the 2024 college football season with a lot of pressure. Deion Sanders needed to have his team ready to go from the jump in order to set the tone for the season. That didn't quite happen, as they scraped out a victory over North Dakota State then lost handily to Nebraska. But three straight wins have the Buffaloes on a hot streak.
Led by Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, Colorado face their toughest opponent yet on Saturday. #18 Kansas State comes in with a talented roster and a particularly talented quarterback in Avery Johnson. Given that K-State is ranked and Colorado has elite players, there will be plenty of viewers; that is, if they can stay awake.
Deion Sanders blasts TV execs for making Colorado-Kansas State game so late
While speaking on the Colorado Football Coaches Show, Sanders was particularly critical of the TV network executives who made the decision to air the game so late on Saturday night.
Who does that to us? Who had the power to sit up there and say, 'yeah, I'm gonna make them play at 8:15 (local time)'. But how stupid is that? It's not smart for a television executive to say we're gonna put this game on at this time... Why would you do it at that time when half of America is asleep?
That start time would be 10:15 on the East Coast. That's a time that has generally been reserved for games that happen on the West Coast, so what Sanders is saying definitely makes some sense.
Given that it's a high-profile game and expected to be one of the best on the Saturday slate, it would have been more logical to make it even just one hour earlier. The ratings might still end up being high anyway, as Colorado attracts eyes from everywhere. Playing a ranked opponent will amplify that no matter the time.
